Get your FEIN and state tax IDs
Every business needs proper identification to operate smoothly. Here’s what you should know:
- Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN): A federal tax ID issued by the IRS, essentially a Social Security number for your business.
- Also known as EIN: This number is critical for reporting corporate taxes, opening business bank accounts, tracking payroll, and general business identification.
- State tax ID requirements: Some states require a separate State Tax ID if you have employees or conduct business locally.
Let RASi handle it for you. We’ll secure the federal and state tax IDs your business needs so you can stay compliant and focus on growth.
My experience with RASi has been excellent. Their account representatives are attentive and diligent. The services get done right the first time. I use RASi for all my national needs and I would recommend them to anyone and firms of all sizes.

How do I form an LLC or corporation?
To form an LLC, corporation, or LLP, you must file official formation documents with the state. These documents are commonly called Articles of Incorporation (for corporations), Articles of Organization (for LLCs), or a Certificate of Limited Liability Partnership (for LLPs), though the exact name varies by state and entity type.
Each state charges its own filing fees and may require ongoing taxes or annual report fees. The specific requirements and costs depend on the jurisdiction where you’re forming your business.

What entity type is best for my business?
Your business structure impacts your daily operations, tax obligations, and personal liability protection. The right entity type can help shield your personal assets, support long-term business goals, and offer potential tax benefits.
Whether a corporation, LLC, or another entity type, what is best depends on your unique circumstances and objectives. RASi strongly recommends consulting an attorney to determine which structure fits your needs.
Please note that RASi does not provide legal advice.

Do I need an FEIN for my business?
A Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN), also called an EIN or Federal Tax Identification Number, is a nine-digit number issued by the IRS and used for federal income tax purposes.
You must obtain an FEIN if your business has employees, even if you operate as a sole proprietorship. Most corporations, LLPs, and LLCs also require an FEIN, regardless of whether they employ workers.
